MAT THICKNESS
How thick of a mat do
you really need? Our Sport and Safety mats are available in 3/4 or 1
Inch thick models, and our Standard Series mats come standard at 5/8
inch thick. The two main things to consider when deciding
on which thickness to use are the type of activity the mat will be
used for and the weight of the participants.
5/8 inch thick mats
are fine for most adult exercise activities that do not involve falls,
throws or other potential hard impacts that could involve the head,
shoulders, hips, knees or elbows. It is also adequate for most
activities involving small children and no climbing equipment.
We'd love to sell you a bunch of thick mats, but that's the truth.
3/4 and 1 inch thick
mats provide more impact absorption, and are suitable for more
vigorous activities. Smaller people and simpler activities
should use the 3/4 inch thick mats and bigger people doing more
intense activities should use the 1 Inch thick mats. THE
INCREDIBLE SHRINKING MAT: Some internet companies, who
sell similar mats insist on advertising that a 20MM mat is 7/8 inches
thick. One company even calls it 1 inch on the first page and
7/8 inch on the order page and when it gets to your house it's 3/4 of
an inch. Our calipers say the 20mm is closer
to 3/4 inches. To call a 20mm mat 7/8th inches thick is
dishonest, and the companies calling 20mm 1 inch are just flat out
lying to you. Because of this situation on the Internet, we
strongly suggest that you get samples of any "7/8 Inch" or
"1 Inch" thick mats and measure them for yourself. It's no mistake that we have been here 10 Years.
