INSTALLATION GUIDE: Combining Straight & Sloped Borders

It is possible to combine our Standard Borders with our Sloped Borders into a single mat installation.  This is a useful technique if you have one or more sides of your mat up against a wall, where straight cut borders work best, but you want sloped borders on the sides that are exposed to traffic.

TOOLS AND SUPPLIES (For custom cut installations)

The basic tools needed for custom cut mat installation are:

A straight-blade Utility Knife (we use Stanley®) with spare blades, for cutting tiles.
A fine point felt or ball pen for marking cut locations.
A metal ruler or other THIN straight edge (24-36 inch) for use as a cutting guide.
A tape measure for verifying measurements before cutting tiles.
A solid cutting board to protect sub-floor while cutting tiles.

If you are cutting a large mat in an open area, like a trade show mat, you may find a Chalk Line easier than marking individual tiles.
Marking and cutting custom corner tiles may be simplified using a metal Square if you know your way around one.
