INSTALLATION GUIDE: Area Mats
AREA MATS CUSTOM MATS OUTDOOR USE TIPS & TRICKS

For our purposes, an Area Mat is simply one that uses our standard tile sizes and border systems without cutting anything to fit a given space.  This is the most common type of installation, and the size of the mat is irrelevant; it could be a 3x4 foot mat in the kitchen to a 20x40 foot trade show pavilion. 

This is where the modular nature of our flooring system shines.  As originally designed into the Standard Series mats, this type of installation generally allows you to get within 4-inches of any dimension. 

With your installation surface prepared as described in the Main Installation page, the installation of your mat is a simple matter of laying out your tiles and attaching your border system.

2. Lay out the plain tiles

INSTALL THE FULL TILES
In a simple area-mat installation, you just lay out the tiles to the desired length and width according to your design. Position any letter, number or picture elements as you go along.  Leave room for any borders you may be installing along walls,

3. Block in the main tiles

INSTALL THE BORDER TILES
Just work your way around the mat using Wondermat pre-cut border tiles on all of the straight edges.
4. Interior corner - Complete

INSTALL THE CORNER TILES
Just snap the four corners on the mat and your are done.
5. The completed installation POSITION YOUR MAT
Position your fully assembled mat where you want it by lifting one side of it to get some air underneath and you can float the entire mat into position.  If you are positioning up against a wall or other obstacles, don't forget to leave room for expansion between the fixed object and the mat to avoid buckling due to expansion.

FINISHING TIPS

Although the above installation assumes you are making a square or rectangular mat with a full set of borders, that is not always the case.  Simple area mats are often customized in the following ways:

Make SQUARE CORNERS, instead of using our normal Rounded Corners
Make an INSIDE CORNER
Removing tabs from a tile to create a straight edge on the side of a mat
Combine Straight and Beveled BORDERS on a mat
